Opera singer and mezzo soprano, Anna Upston originally took up crochet as a way to relax while practicing. The crochet habit quickly grew into an almost obsessive love for quirky and exotic yarn.
Within a few years, Anna began to create her own yarn, using her favorite luxury fibers, and experimenting with a myriad of techniques, textures and colors.
In 2006, Anna began Maupston Design Studio, wholesaling her yarn to a local yarn store. She began to sell directly to the public through Farmers' Markets in 2008. Today, Maupston Design Studio sells in two markets as well as on commission. Demand for Maupston yarns continues to grow, and clients have a choice of knitting the yarn themselves, letting one of Maupston's professional knitters create a finished product or simply wearing the yarn "UNKNIT" in the form of an ultra chic cowl. Anna lives in New York with her husband and three beautiful children. |
